Abstract
Abstract Enhancing efficiency with scientific writing is an important skill for every person with a career in academia who has substantial and competing time demands related to their professional duties and responsibilities. This chapter presents strategies and approaches that can help improve the efficiency and effectiveness of scientific writing. The suggestions described include considerations before writing, such as having a thorough understanding of the topic and the ability to crystallize the main message of the report; approaches for overcoming procrastination; how authors can find their “writing zone”; strategies to help overcome writer’s block; practical approaches to efficient writing, such as avoiding duplication of effort; and suggestions for developing a method for managing and tracking source materials.
