Research Trends and Hotspots in the Integration of Mechanical Engineering and Artificial Intelligence: A Bibliometric Perspective

Abstract
This paper employs bibliometric methods to analyze research trends and hotspots in the integration of mechanical engineering and artificial intelligence. Quantitative analysis and visualization of relevant literature from the Web of Science database from 1996 to July 2024 were conducted using VOSviewer and CiteSpace. This study reveals the characteristics of research hotspots, authors, institutions, and countries within this field. It was found that China has made the most significant research contributions in this area, while German scholars' work has received the highest recognition. Key research hotspots primarily focus on intelligent optimization methods in mechanical design, applications of machine learning in manufacturing, and data-driven approaches in mechanical engineering and manufacturing. As artificial intelligence technology continues to evolve, the research trends in this field are becoming more diversified, in-depth, and interdisciplinary.
