Abstract

Radiology has been the field of medicine at the forefront of technological developments in the last few decades. As a result, the role of the radiologist has been constantly evolving. While radiologists have most definitely carved out a niche for themselves in the practice of medicine and perform important tasks that have a direct bearing on patient management, little is known to the patient about the role they play. In this chapter we explore how the role of the radiologist has evolved. We review published surveys which have explored patient knowledge and attitude towards radiologists. We also attempt to anticipate what the future may hold, and toward which direction these attitudes are likely to change, with the tsunami of changes shaped by information technology.
