Abstract
There is a large degree of uncertainty related to the rapidly evolving role of artificial intelligence (AI) in radiology. One of the main contributing factors is the significant divergence between the perception of AI compared with the reality of the current state of AI systems. For instance, artificial general intelligence (AGI) does not currently exist, and there is no clear pathway for one to be created [1]. This chapter provides an overview of the expectations of AI in radiology, with a particular focus on the technological viewpoint. We highlight the current state of the art, misperceptions, and recommendations for the path forward to level-set expectations and relate those to AI's impact on current and future practicing radiologists.
