Abstract
Artificial intelligence is expected to revolutionize the profession of radiology. The introduction of various AI software is expected to fundamentally impact how radiology departments work by enhancing timing, reducing costs, optimizing imaging studies, and aiding in detecting lesions in diagnosing diseases. It is speculated that this may have unintended consequences on radiology jobs, salaries, and job satisfaction. Deciphering these consequences is detrimental to future policymaking. Unfortunately, a lack of empirical evidence will make this task harder. In the present chapter, we review the existing evidence regarding the impact of AI on radiology job markets and salaries and gather surveys performed on radiologists to illustrate their opinions and expectations regarding the future of their profession, the impact of AI on their daily routines, their willingness to participate in a possibly AI-dominated profession, and their views regarding the future of radiology job markets and their salaries. This chapter shows that although some ambiguities and uncertainties exist regarding the future, most radiologists are willing to actively participate in a radiology job market characterized by the utilization of AI solutions in different steps of medical imaging.
