Abstract
The objective of this chapter is to summarize many aspects of the societal view of artificial intelligence (AI) in radiology, not only by demonstrating example uses of AI as a tool for social transformation and equity worldwide, but also by exploring crucial topics such as the ethical concepts involved, existing and needed regulatory frameworks, data security and its importance in real-world uses; and responsible uses of AI in radiology. Each one of these topics are components of a complex system that need to be well defined and supported by strong legislation in order for AI in radiology to achieve its promise of improving patients’ lives around the world.
