Abstract
This study aimed to investigate the perspectives of instructors on the impact of ChatGPT as a teaching and learning tool. The research followed a mixed method approach which included a survey and a focus group discussion. A total 18 instructors affiliated with the Military Technological College in Muscat, Oman, responded to the survey. Additionally, 5 instructors joined a focus group discussion to share their views on the integration of ChatGPT in engineering education. The survey was analyzed using descriptive analysis while the data of the focus group discussion was analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings showed that instructors have a very high perception of the use of ChatGPT in engineering education. The results also showed the importance of having well-defined and widely communicated guidelines for using ChatGPT in engineering education. The findings also showed that instructors need to promote ethical awareness, have training on AI tools, and take assessment redesign into consideration.
