Abstract
This study explores higher education students' perceptions of ChatGPT, an AI tool, focusing on benefits, challenges, and educational implications. It focuses on students' familiarity, interactions, perceived advantages, limitations, and ethical concerns related to the integration of such technology. With advancements in AI and natural language processing, tools like ChatGPT are becoming more common in various areas, especially education. This research specifically examines the impact of ChatGPT, which was created by OpenAI, on higher education. Quantitative methods are employed, surveying a diverse sample of 170 students from various academic levels. Convenience sampling was used, selecting participants based on their convenience and readiness to participate in the research. The survey was administered through Google Forms. The research instrument utilized a five-point Likert scale questionnaire. Results indicate that students are familiar with ChatGPT and hold a favourable view, particularly for information retrieval and problem-solving in education. However, concerns were identified, including challenges in handling complex queries, occasional inaccuracies, and ethical worries about issues like reduced creativity and misuse of the tool. The research highlights ChatGPT's potential benefits in education while emphasizing the importance of addressing its limitations and ethical considerations for responsible deployment and enhanced learning outcomes.
