Abstract
Governance and ethics in the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare pose fundamental questions to ensure that emerging technologies are implemented in a safe, fair, and transparent manner. The increasing use of AI in the healthcare sector offers great opportunities to improve patient care, optimize treatments and health protocols, and increase the efficiency of products and services, but it also raises significant challenges regarding privacy, equity, transparency, and accountability. This article aims to answer the research question: “How important is it to adopt governance practices and ethical precepts in the use of AI systems in healthcare?” Through an integrative literature review in the Scopus and Web of Science databases, 11 studies were selected that present, in different ways, challenges and solutions for the use of AI in healthcare to ensure that technological innovations benefit patients, healthcare professionals, and society in a fair and safe manner.
