ChatGPT In The Classroom: Guidelines for Integrating AI-Assisted Learning into Pakistani Children's Academic Journey

Abstract
This paper seeks to understand the extent of AI chatbot usage amongst Pakistani primary and middle school children. Through a mixed-method approach involving quantitative survey and qualitative interviews with students and teachers, we discover the most common ways in which children use AI assistance for their education. Our findings reveal that students from grade 6 onwards start using ChatGPT regularly for their coursework, primarily for subjects like English, Science, Social Studies, and Math. Based on our findings, we recommend guidelines on how to prepare children to critically and effectively use AI assistance to their advantage. The findings of this study lay the foundations of how to integrate AI tools in children's learning and development.
