Abstract
Abstract As educational technology evolves, ChatGPT, a generative artificial intelligence chatbot, is a notably revolutionary tool that provides innovative teaching and learning possibilities for K-12 education. This comprehensive analysis delves into the pros and cons of integrating ChatGPT into the K-12 sector. ChatGPT offers limitless opportunities in personal learning, immediate feedback, resource efficiency, and accessibility and inclusivity. Alongside these benefits are drawbacks that could impede the robustness of pedagogical integration. These concerns include lack of critical thinking, teacher redundancy, accuracy of information, and ethical concerns. Additionally, the necessity of artificial intelligence (AI) teacher training for models such as ChatGPT is highlighted in this paper for educators, administrators, and students to integrate these powerful tools into the classroom. In subscribing to AI training models, a paradigm shift in rationale must occur, progressing from a traditional approach toward a more dynamic delivery that accentuates pedagogical strategies, ethical concerns, and ongoing support. For an up-to-date 2024 ChatGPT relating to K-12 educational trends, GPT-4 itself states there will be even greater improvements in assisting educators with lesson planning, managing plagiarism, revising assessments, and aiding administrative tasks. For students, the chatbot highlights enhancements in critical thinking, personal learning, and digitalized safety.
