The Impact of AI and ChatGPT on Bangladeshi University Students: A Machine Learning Approach

Abstract

This study investigates the impact of AI tools, particularly ChatGPT, on the academic performance, learning behaviors, and critical thinking of university students in Bangladesh. Data from 1,370 students across 31 universities were collected through a survey and analyzed using machine learning models, including Random Forest, Logistic Regression, K-Nearest Neighbors, Support Vector Machines, and Linear Discriminant Analysis. Among these, Random Forest achieved the highest accuracy (99.51%), demonstrating its effectiveness in identifying patterns of ChatGPT usage. The findings reveal that ChatGPT significantly enhances self-directed learning, collaboration, and problem-solving. However, concerns regarding data privacy, over reliance on AI, and its potential impact on creativity are highlighted. This research provides valuable insights for educators and policymakers to guide the responsible integration of AI tools into education. It underscores the importance of balancing technological advancements with traditional learning values to ensure a sustainable, inclusive educational future in Bangladesh.
