Abstract

Introduction: FNAC is the most widely utilized screening test for therapeutic decision-making and identifying individuals with thyroid nodules into the six Bethesda categories (category I–VI). The 2023 edition of TBSRTC further simplies these categories by using a single name and providing more precise diagnostic criteria for each category. The purpose of this research is to examine this classication scheme's utility, interobserver repeatability, and unique management prole with reduced need for unnecessary Surgery. Evaluation of diagnostic utility Aims and Objectives: , reproducibility, and prognostic signicance of TBSRTC and report the malignancy risk for FNA of thyroid lesions. Materials and Methods: A Retrospective observational study was conducted at the Cytology section, Pathology Department, GMERS Medical College and Hospital, Gotri, Vadodara, for a period of one year from January 2023 to December 2023. A total of 100 samples were received by the cytology section for FNAC from patients presenting with thyroid swelling to our hospital. FNAC slides were examined, reported and categorized by using the 2023 TBSRTC reporting system. We receiv Results: ed 100 cases, out of which 16 were males and 84 were females, with a male-to-female ratio of 1:5.6. Age-wise distribution, most 49% cases fell within the 26-50 years of age group, followed by 30% cases in the 51-75 years of age group, 19%, 2% cases in the 1-25 and 76-100 years of age group respectively. Bethesda category [I] included 3.0% cases, category [II] 71.0% cases, category [III] 11.0% cases, category [IV] 6.0% cases, category [V] 3.0% cases, and category [VI] 6.0% cases. TBSTRC has Conclusion: been proven to be an efcient, unique, and robust thyroid FNAC reporting system for a classication scheme that facilitates communication among pathologists, radiologists, endocrinologists, and surgeons; facilitates correlation for thyroid swelling to guide the management of patients.
