Abstract
The domain of mental healthcare has been transforming rapidly against the backdrop of a global pandemic. The scale of mental health crisis that exists in the world is very high with highly prevalent mental health conditions in all countries. In this scenario, incorporating AI systems into mental healthcare marks a significant milestone in addressing the global mental health crisis. This chapter discusses AI's potential in mental healthcare, the extent of AI's capability in supporting mental health, popular AI platforms and their applications, and the risks and regulations grounded in ethical principles. The chapter emphasizes the necessity of adhering to ethical standards in mental health practices while utilizing AI to elevate the mental health field to provide accessible, cost-effective, and readily expandable services. Establishing strong rules, ensuring transparency, validating AI models, and continuously investing in research and development are all necessary to fulfill this potential.
