Abstract
In the growing age of technology, there are rapid advancements in several fields. One such example of advancement is Artificial intelligence (AI), which people of all ages widely use in today's world. ChatGPT is a version of generative AI designed to create human-like conversational dialogue. It has become a very friendly tool for technology users to find any solution to any critical problem. The primary objective of this study is to investigate the perceptions of ChatGPT users regarding the importance of its use. The study also aims to explore the challenges and opportunities associated with its use in various fields. Following a qualitative approach, a semi-structured interview was conducted among 10 learners who were chosen purposively, aged between 19 and 21, and are frequent users of ChatGPT. The interview was conducted among learners to probe their perceptions regarding the use of ChatGPT, including its pros and cons. For analysing the data, a thematic analysis method has been adopted. The results of the study show that users utilise ChatGPT for both academic and non-academic purposes. The results also show that the application of ChatGPT has both advantages and disadvantages. Apart from this, the excessive use of ChatGPT curbs the creative skills of users, as they become increasingly dependent on such tools rather than developing their own creative skills and reflective thinking.
