Abstract
Due to its user-friendliness and exceptional learning capabilities, ChatGPT has achieved a user base of 100 million within just two months since its launch, exerting significant influence and even disruption across economic, social, cultural, and educational domains. Its impact has overshadowed the recent hype around the "metaverse," sparking widespread attention and debate. Grounded in the current and future realities of societal and educational transformation in the era of artificial intelligence, through investigating the challenges posed by ChatGPT's natural language text generation technology to traditional legal education theories, this paper aims to explore the functional characteristics of ChatGPT within the context of legal education and analyze its application value and boundaries in education. It finds that while enhancing efficiency and convenience in learning and professional practice, ChatGPT compels schools, teachers, and students to reform outdated ideologies and methods, fostering exploration of new educational philosophies, pedagogies, and ethical frameworks. A holistic analysis of educational ecosystems is essential to fully grasp the opportunities and challenges AI presents. Legal education should leverage the potential of such technologies while adhering to its foundational mission of cultivating ethical, well-rounded individuals, and helping legal education leverage artificial intelligence in problem-solving.
