Abstract
Abstract In recent years, the field of artificial intelligence (AI) and its application within healthcare has made rapid progress. AI may provide benefits by providing comprehensive data analysis to support clinicians and patients make better informed decisions and to facilitate SDM. This chapter provides an overview of AI and introduces ten innovative ways through which AI could potentially facilitate SDM. These include, for example, enhancing risk communication (about treatment or screening options), recognizing patterns in specific patients’ health data, and recommending personalized treatment or screening to streamline the decision making process in healthcare settings.
