Abstract
The broad and quick widespread use of Artificial Intelligence like ChatGPT is changing our education system. What was once seen as a system that could adapt to any new change is now facing a new problem that could change the thinking of children and youth across the world. The long tradition of writing is now seeing a bigger challenge as well, with several questions being asked on what could be the possible future for creative writing and storytelling, this game-changer of AI is a stimulating combination of promising new opportunities for students to write in a more professional manner and valid concerns that their own creativity will be lost. This article will look into the impact of ChatGPT on students' imagination and their ability to now express themselves creatively. Acknowledging the positives such as triggering first sparks of inspiration to polishing off last drafts—and balancing its power to overcome the obstacle of writer’s block to increase efficiency. But also struggling with the potential negatives of how it could reduce a student’s authentic originality, water down their individual voice, or even hinder and decrease their critical thinking? Drawing on current scholarship and proven theory of creativity, this work intends to illuminate whether or not AI actually expands imaginative possibilities or unintentionally creates a more structured form of expression. Ultimately, this work intends to provide educators with concrete means of integrating AI responsibly, so that it can serve as an honored collaborator supporting the development of students' own unique artistic voices.
