Abstract

Background: Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) poses a growing burden in Kenya. However, the preparedness of healthcare workers to adopt digital tools for its management is unclear. Objective: This study assessed digital literacy and readiness among healthcare workers managing CKD patients in Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH). Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study involving 105 healthcare workers at (KNH). Quantitative data were collected through structured questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive statistics and chi-square tests. Four key informant interviews provided qualitative insights. Results: Most participants were nurses (40.4%), female (62.9%), and aged 25–34 years (46.7%). While 46.6% were neutral about the usability of paper-based systems, many cited delays and data loss as key issues. Although 41.9% had never received digital literacy training, 92.3% reported confidence in using digital tools, and 85.7% were willing to adopt them. No significant associations were found between demographic variables and digital readiness (p > 0.05). Interviewees expressed enthusiasm for digital systems but emphasized the need for infrastructure and support. Conclusion: Healthcare workers show high digital readiness for CKD tool adoption. Strengthening training and system support could accelerate digital integration in CKD care.
