A Comprehensive Analysis of ChatGPT-Assisted Learning: A Systematic Exploration from Learning Outcomes to Student Behavior Patterns

Abstract
The rapid advancement of technology is fundamentally transforming traditional educational models, with the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in the educational sector becoming increasingly prevalent. However, the implications of AI on long-term learning outcomes remain unclear. This study aims to analyze the effects of ChatGPT, an AI tool, on student learning outcomes, as well as the behavioral characteristics of students at different academic levels when utilizing ChatGPT. A quasi-experimental design was employed, contrasting an experimental group that used ChatGPT as a learning aid with a control group that did not engage with the tool. The results indicated that ChatGPT significantly enhanced short-term learning outcomes for all students in the experimental group; however, its impact on long-term learning was found to be limited. Additionally, students with insufficient background knowledge who relied heavily on ChatGPT did not experience the same long-term benefits and may have encountered a decline in their independent thinking and problem-solving abilities. The study underscores the necessity for a balanced approach to the utilization of AI tools in educational contexts and ad-vocates for the development of guidelines by educators to facilitate effective Intesrration.
