Abstract
This chapter examines the advantages and disadvantages of integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in family medicine and primary care. We first provided an overview of the history of AI in medicine and discussed the different modalities that AI has to offer in the clinical and academic areas of family medicine. We highlight the opportunity for AI to facilitate patient care in a more efficient manner. The reader’s attention will then turn to AI’s effect on medical providers, patient care, office workflow, and medical education. Lastly, we explore the various ethical considerations, safety, potential challenges, and future opportunities for implementing AI to utilize patient-centered care more efficiently.
