Abstract
Cybersecurity and personal data protection have been a major concern worldwide. While digitization has resulted in better service delivery, the increased risk regarding personal information security has led to financial losses, loss of goodwill, and legal consequences for institutions. As technology grows, hackers use more sophisticated intrusion penetration algorithms that pose a challenge for firms that do not implement the right internal controls. There have been various incidences in Oman where various private and public institutions have been cyber-attacked leading to the loss of personal information and financial resources. To reduce the risk of attacks, there have been concerted efforts in the country and in specific ministries such as the Ministry of Health to reduce the vulnerability. Some proposed solutions include enacting laws regulating information security, improving the internal controls on data protection in organizations, and using updated systems that have defined new protective measures against cybersecurity threats. Specifically, this paper analyzes the use of Artificial Intelligence in enhancing cybersecurity and personal data protection in the health sector in Oman while simultaneously reviewing cyber threats and ensuring robust information security across public and private health systems. It reviews the security of all the information systems used in the hospitals and information systems of other stakeholders such as insurance firms, private hospitals, and other interconnected platforms.
