Generative AI integration in higher education shifts students’ attitudes from tool use to innovation

Abstract
The rapid development of generative AI has brought significant changes to the field of education. This study examines the impact of a project using generative AI in a class on the use of productivity software at university and university students’ attitudes towards AI. This study used a pre-post survey design to measure changes in students’ cognitive, affective, and behavioral attitudes toward AI. The results indicate a significant positive shift in students’ perspectives. This study provides empirical evidence that it is important to expand hands-on training and create an environment where students can experience and use AI when designing AI curricula for university curricula.
