An Exploration of Current Affairs Translation based on Artificial Intelligence ChatGPT

Abstract
Before the advent of the artificial intelligence ChatGPT, major translation software such as Baidu Translate, Youdao Translate, and Bing Translate-despite being equipped with machine translation engines-frequently encountered issues such as simple syntactic errors and semantic misunderstandings. However, in 2022, the American company OpenAI released ChatGPT, a powerful artificial intelligence tool. This led to pessimistic speculation within the translation industry, with many believing that human translation would eventually be replaced by efficient and accurate AI translation. Numerous translators, after testing ChatGPT, noted that in most cases, it can provide accurate translations quickly, demonstrating an efficiency irreplaceable by humans. However, for complex texts-such as classical Chinese or political and economic texts involving obscure vocabulary and semantic repetition-ChatGPT may not perform as well. This article aims to discuss ChatGPT's proficiency in translating political texts as a case study.
