Abstract
Technological advancements have significantly improved human life, with Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) emerging as a powerful tool for creating multimedia content automatically. This technology enables content generation based on humans’ prompts, meeting user expectations. However, its misuse, particularly for generating disinformation, fake news, or hoaxes, poses serious risks. Disinformation can mislead and harm people or institutional images, trigger community disputes, and lower public trust. This study explores public perceptions of disinformation generated using Generative AI using a qualitative approach through Focus Group Discussions (FGDs). Participants came from diverse professions such as students, teachers, private and state-owned employees, and government staff. These varied perspectives enriched the discussion on how AI-generated disinformation, such as that from tools like ChatGPT, affects different work sectors. The discussions revealed a shared concern about the impact of disinformation and a collective call for improving public information literacy. Participants emphasized the need for society to discern reliable information from false information. The findings also stressed the importance of personal and academic integrity in using Generative AI responsibly as a supportive tool rather than for manipulation. The study concludes with a recommendation to raise public awareness of AI’s risks and promote stronger digital literacy across all levels of society.
