Abstract
Teaching and learning a second language have changed considerably over the past several decades with a new paradigm focusing on student proficiency in the target language. Digital technologies have become practical tools for both instructors and students. Among the latest developments is artificial intelligence, which can perform tasks to achieve learning objectives without exhaustive human guidance. ChatGPT's natural language processing abilities appear to hold promise for the provision of corrective written feedback to second language learners. The purpose of the present study was to examine second language learners' perceptions of receiving corrective written feedback from ChatGPT using the IDEE framework (Su & Yang, 2023) as a research lens. Results indicate that there are benefits of using ChatGPT for both language learners and instructors. The study has implications for instructors, world language program coordinators, and educationalists.
