Observation of Long-Term Thread Stability in ChatGPT / ChatGPTにおける長期スレッド安定性の観察

Abstract

This document is a user-side technical observation memo recording notable changes in long-term thread stability in ChatGPT observed since early August 2025. In the absence of any official announcements regarding specification changes or system updates, conversation threads that had typically become unstable or segmented after approximately 200–400 messages were observed to continue operating stably beyond 1,000 messages. This memo explicitly documents the observation period (August 1–7, 2025) and observation conditions (single-thread interaction, no use of Canvas functionality, long-term memory disabled, and intentionally structured dialogue). It organizes the observed system behavior, presents hypothetical considerations regarding possible contributing factors, and discusses practical operational implications. It should be noted that a portion of the primary observational content included in this record was pre-submitted to OpenAI on August 12, 2025, for the purposes of research consultation and information sharing. The publicly released version has been reconstructed and anonymized in a manner that does not conflict with that prior submission.
