Disruptive Digital Technologies in Emerging Artificial Intelligence: A Critical Analysis

Abstract

Machine learning in artificial intelligence (AI) tools, such as the ChatGPT, can offer prompt responses with an unforeseen combination of innovative and valuable texts produced from digital traces, with the likelihood of an exceptionally low selection subject to quality data sources and training. These traces require a knowing subject to interpret, analyze, and validate the outcomes. This chapter analyzes the emergent and disruptive digital technologies in an era of AI. It departs from the assumption that the emerging technologies create both opportunities and challenges with an impact on individuals, organizations, institutions, and society at large in terms of bias, surveillance, hacking, etc. using existing scientific literature. It concludes that control over the ethical disruption of digital technologies must require a digital conversation and leadership about acceptable ethical behaviors, under the assumption that digital transformation cannot be interrupted and must be guided by humans in the following years of the near future.
