Abstract

In today's fast-paced healthcare landscape, healthcare providers face the constant challenge of ensuring a smooth patient journey. However, due to the high complexity of the various processes in a hospital and the many dependencies between these processes, it is a great challenge to address all needs along the patient journey. Optimized procedures benefit not only patients and healthcare professionals but also hospital administration. As a first step, artificial intelligence (AI) can help to map the patient journey and better understand the various stages. The underlying processes can be analysed with the help of AI and influencing factors can be identified. Building on this, AI algorithms can help to improve processes by, for example, predicting time periods for certain treatments. The example of predicting surgery times is used to explain how such algorithms can be used.
