Abstract
The COMFORTage project, encapsulated in Deliverable D2.1 – “State of the Art and Requirement Analysis I”, conducts a comprehensive evaluation of contemporary approaches to aging and dementia prevention. This document, serving as a critical foundation, synthesises state-of-the-art research, technological advancements, and clinical practices to inform the project's strategic direction. The report begins by outlining the objectives, scope, and methodologies, setting a clear framework for the following analyses. It delves into various pilot projects to address dementia prevention and health maintenance in older adults. These pilots range from community-based health programs to sophisticated digital tools for monitoring and personalised care.Key areas of focus include (i) the specification and definition of the pilot studies; (ii) the technological advancements and integrations that are foreseen in the context of the project; (iii) the comprehensive analysis of its requirements from technical, ethical, and clinical perspective; and finally (iv) the innovative approaches that will be followed throughout its lifecycle. With regards to the pilot studies, each pilot targets specific aspects of dementia prevention, incorporating multi-modal interventions, biomarker analysis, and integrating multiple data sources to create personalised health interventions. These pilots are designed to evaluate the effectiveness of various approaches in real-world settings, aiming to recruit significant participant numbers to generate robust data. Moreover, this report explores the essential technological components and its integrations towards the implementation of these interventions. It highlights the roles of artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, and digital health technologies, emphasising the importance of explainable AI (XAI) for transparency and trust in healthcare solutions. In addition, this deliverable report articulates detailed requirements for infrastructure, and system interoperability. It underscores the importance of robust data management practices and compliance with regulatory frameworks like GDPR, ensuring the data security, ethical and secure handling of health data. Finally, as concerns the innovative approaches that will be followed it seeks to highlight groundbreaking methods such as virtual reality for cognitive assessment and digital twins for personalized treatment, the report showcases innovative tools that enhance early diagnosis and personalized care. These technologies are positioned as transformative in managing aging and dementia. The COMFORTage D2.1 – “State of the Art and Requirement Analysis I” report is more than an academic review; it is a strategic blueprint aimed at revolutionizing dementia and aging care through technology-driven, user-friendly solutions. By aligning cutting-edge research with practical application, the document lays the groundwork for effective, scalable health interventions that promise to improve the quality of life for older adults
