Abstract
Artificial intelligence (AI) tools, such as the chatbot ChatGPT, can generate answers to user-provided questions. Since ChatGPT is trained using large data sets, it has much information and can answer questions correctly and informatively. It can also assist lecturers and students in learning and teaching programming. While researchers highlight both the positive and negative aspects of using AI in studies, this article examines how the role of a programming lecturer is changing as students increasingly use AI to complete assignments, develop projects, or learn programming. The study aims to analyse how the use of AI in programming studies transforms the role of lecturers based on the latest scientific literature. Research method: analysis of scientific articles related to the application of generative AI, such as ChatGPT, in programming education. The study revealed that AI shifts the role of the lecturer from a knowledge transmitter to a mentor and consultant. Lecturers must actively lead the study process, properly integrate AI into the study process, and develop students' critical thinking and responsible use of AI.
