Polish Anomalies vs World Trend in Artificial Intelligence Research

Abstract

Analyzing the publication intensity on artificial intelligence (AI) is essential for understanding how scientific interests are changing, how research agendas are being formed, and which problems are becoming central in scientific discourse. The article examines trends in publication activity in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) based on data from the Scopus scientometric database for 2017-2024. The aim of the study was to identify the features of the publication dynamics of Polish scientists in comparison with global trends. The methodology includes a scientometric analysis of 369,048 publications by the keyword “artificial intelligence”, as well as the construction of trend models and correlation analysis. Three hypotheses were tested: about a stable increase in publications in Poland, about global positive dynamics, and about strengthening Poland’s position in the global scientific market. The results confirmed the presence of a stable global trend, but revealed the unstable nature of Polish publication activity and a decrease in its share in the global structure of scientific products. The practical and theoretical value lies in revealing a hidden problem in Polish scientists’ publication intensity on AI. This study represents an essential contribution to further research on AI worldwide.
