Abstract

The Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI), exemplified by the ChatGPT interface, produces a highly intelligent and adaptable AI language model capable of assisting with diverse tasks, including data analysis, translation, and text generation, because of the AI revolution. Recently, ChatGPT has drawn a lot of attention from higher institutions. More thorough comments have shown that GAI, such as ChatGPT, can improve student learning even in spite of its sporadic biases and factual errors. More research will inevitably be done on how GAI, such as ChatGPT, is being examined in the context of higher education, given this significant concern. To better comprehend the use of GAI tools to support academic activities, this study intended to conduct a Focus Group Discussion (FGD). We also utilized the Consolidated criteria for reporting qualitative studies (COREQ) to maintain a standard qualitative checklist and a thematic analysis to facilitate the translation from questions to a conceptual framework. This focus group involves 36 participants who are academicians and students in undergraduate, master's, doctorate, and post-doctoral programs in Malaysian universities, including Indonesians, Malaysians, Chinese, Arabian, and others. Most participants may have employed GAI such as ChatGPT for educational purposes, based on the results. According to the participants, using GAI was inevitable. Thus, all that's needed is legislation, or a set of rules, including limitations on its application in educational settings.
