Abstract
Innovation on technologies based on the use of artificial intelligence in health care has improved over the years with evidence of potentials in clinical decision support systems and assisting and improvement of health care. However, introducing this technology in nursing decision support system for maternal and child health care can raise a serious issue due to bias in the training of the algorithms and its implication for the patient. Thus, this review focused on exploring the impact of integrating the artificial intelligence tools in nursing decision support systems for adequate maternal and health care of children. Findings showed that nurses are professional which recognizes their roles in coordinating, providing emotional support and manage the clinical technologies. however, they are limited in these roles when it comes to maternal health care services in terms of quality care both for the pregnant mother and the fetus. Appropriate artificial intelligence tools that is unique to maternal and child health care will greatly help in achieving adequate decision making for the nurses. Hence, the study provides insight for the health professionals on how leveraging on artificial intelligence tools would provide effective clinical decision-making process for adequate patient outcome.
