Abstract

The Individualized Education Program (IEP) is a personalized educational scheme meticulously crafted for children with special educational needs. It serves as a crucial textual guide and the fundamental action basis for special education, having been widely adopted in special education. However, current practices and research reveal that during the formulation and implementation of IEP, numerous issues emerge. These include an overwhelming workload for teachers, a feeble ability to integrate resources from diverse parties, and a significant imbalance between personalized goals and implementation efficiency. With the rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI), generative artificial intelligence (GenAI), exemplified by ChatGPT, has exerted a profound influence on education. It has also introduced more possibilities for special education and the operation of IEP. The objective of this study is to clarify the applicability of GenAI in IEP, explore its value connotation and practical feasibility, analyze the challenges it encounters, and propose corresponding countermeasures, ultimately promoting the rational and effective application of GenAI in special education.
