Abstract
This study explores the digital literacy levels of Senior High School (SHS) students in the Philippines and their use of ChatGPT to support learning. It focuses on three components of digital literacy: information, technological, and computer literacy. The study aims to examine the relationship between digital literacy and ChatGPT use in educational contexts. Using a quantitative descriptive-comparative design, data were collected from 367 SHS students across grade level, academic tracks, and socio-economic class. Findings showed no significant differences in digital literacy based on these variables. Moreover, a very weak, statistically non-significant positive relationship was found between digital literacy components and ChatGPT use. These findings suggest that while digital literacy contributes to students’ ability to engage with digital tools, external factors such as teacher guidance, classroom integration, and task relevance are more influential in driving ChatGPT use. The study highlights the need to strengthen both digital literacy and instructional support to optimize AI tool integration in education.
