Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine how students in the Philippines experience fatigue when using AI tools in their academic work. A total of 594 students from public and private higher education institutions in Pampanga participated during the first semester of academic year 2025–2026. Data were collected using a 29-item survey instrument rated on a five-point Likert scale and analyzed through exploratory factor analysis with principal axis factoring and varimax rotation. Results showed that 25 items were retained and grouped into three factors, which explained 46.5% of the variance. These factors were Cognitive-Emotional Fatigue, Tech-Clarity Fatigue, and Passive Fatigue. Reliability analysis indicated acceptable internal consistency. The study indicates that AI-induced fatigue is multidimensional which involves emotional, technical, and behavioral components. The study recommends the development of clearer classroom guidelines, orientation activities, and reflective practices to encourage critical and responsible use of AI in higher education.
