Abstract
This chapter explores the implications of generative artificial intelligence for advanced clinical nursing practice, with a focus on clinical judgement, professional education, leadership, and ethical governance. The chapter per the authors critically explores how generative artificial intelligence is being integrated into healthcare systems and its potential role in supporting clinical reasoning, documentation, care coordination, and educational practice within advanced nursing roles. Drawing on international research evidence and national and global policy frameworks, the chapter evaluates both the opportunities and limitations of AI-enabled nursing practice. Particular attention is given to challenges related to automation bias, data governance, equity, and professional accountability, alongside the absence of nursing-specific regulatory guidance. The chapter concludes by offering evidence-informed recommendations to support responsible, human-centred adoption of generative artificial intelligence while safeguarding professional judgement, patient safety, and public trust.
