Abstract

ChatGPT is a Generative AI tool available to everyone. It’s a useful tool if used properly. Higher education students use it frequently due to its novelty and support. We conducted a survey to identify students’ perceptions of this tool, considering various aspects, including ease of use, study assistance, and support with assignments, among others. We surveyed students in a business-related program and another for students in a computer engineering program. The results showed that students perceived ChatGPT as a motivating and efficient learning tool, especially useful as a complementary resource. Furthermore, considering gender and field of study, we found differences in how students perceive its usefulness, with men and engineering students showing greater appreciation for its use in learning and academic work. This invites reflection on the need for pedagogical support to achieve equitable and critical use of this technology among different student profile.
