Abstract

Background: Oral diseases constitute a major public health burden affecting approximately 3.5 billion people globally.1 The emergence of digital technologies — artificial intelligence (AI), computer-aided design/manufacturing (CAD/CAM), cone beam computed tomography (CBCT), intraoral scanners (IOS), and 3D printing — offers unprecedented opportunities to deliver personalized, evidence-based dental care at the population level.[2] Objective: This review, published in the context of Public Health Dentistry, critically appraises the integration of digital technologies in personalized dental care, their population-level implications, and their relevance for dental students. Methods: A structured literature review was conducted using PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar (2010–2025). Nineteen peer-reviewed references meeting pre-defined inclusion criteria were incorporated. Conclusions: Digital technologies are reshaping dental public health, enabling equitable access through tele-dentistry, AI-driven population screening, and cost-effective fabrication workflows. Dental students must attain digital competency alongside classical epidemiological and preventive training.
