Abstract
This chapter will outline how artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) can be used to develop sophisticated diagnostic devices and health monitoring systems for rural health centers. The chapter will also consider typical challenges in such areas, including poor health infrastructure, poor literacy levels, and a shortage of medical personnel in rural areas. The chapter will give examples of AI systems that assist in forecasting disease outbreaks, mobile health diagnosis, and interventions that help health workers work more effectively. The chapter will also outline the use of intelligent Internet of Things (IoT) devices and mobile health apps, and it will consider the ethical implications of implementing AI technologies with vulnerable rural populations. The general objective of this discussion is to present scalable, secure, and affordable digital health solutions that can greatly enhance health outcomes in rural areas through the use of data and knowledge.
