Abstract

Abstract Objective This study aims to determine nursing students’ attitudes and anxiety levels toward using artificial intelligence. Methods This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted with 234 nursing students from a private university. Inclusion criteria included being a Turkish citizen and enrolled in the nursing program. Data were collected using a Socio-demographic Form, the General Attitude towards Artificial Intelligence Scale, and the Artificial Intelligence Anxiety Scale. Data were analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson correlation (p < 0.05). Results According to results, the participants’ mean age was 20.47±1.00 and 85.9% were female. The mean total score of the General Attitude towards Artificial Intelligence Scale was 69.54±8.79. The mean score of Positive Attitude Towards Artificial Intelligence was 44,38±6,10 and Negative Attitude Towards Artificial Intelligence was 25,16±5,73. The mean score of Artificial Intelligence Anxiety Scale was calculated as 45,90±11,57. A significant and moderate negative correlation was found between the total scores of General Attitude Scale to Artificial Intelligence scores and Artificial Intelligence Anxiety Scale (r=-0.595). It was determined that positive attitude scores of participants who had detailed knowledge about Artificial Intelligence and used Artificial Intelligence in education were significantly higher than those who didn’t know about Artificial Intelligence and didn’t use it in education (p<0.05). The anxiety scores of female participants were significantly higher than male participants. It was observed that the Artificial Intelligence Anxiety Scale scores of participants who didn’t use AI in education were significantly higher than those who did (p<0.05). Conclusion Supporting positive attitudes and integrating Artificial Intelligence into nursing education may help reduce anxiety and improve students’ readiness for future healthcare technologies. Enhancing awareness and experience with Artificial Intelligence can further strengthen acceptance and effective use among nursing students.
