Abstract
This study examined the media coverage of ChatGPT in the context of education in Japan and Malaysia. Through a thematic analysis of news articles, we identified and analyzed the dominant frames associated with the use of ChatGPT in education. The study found that three frames dominated the coverage: pedagogical, ethical, and assessment. The coverage highlighted the potential benefits of ChatGPT, such as personalized learning and improved assessment processes, as well as concerns around academic integrity, AI bias, and the impact of AI on society. The study also revealed differences in the tone and source usage between Malaysian and Japanese media coverage. The findings have important implications for the development and implementation of emerging educational technologies, emphasizing the need for responsible and ethical use of AI in education.
