Abstract

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming educational assessment, by offering innovative solutions to evaluate student learning outcomes effectively. This study seeks to explore faculty and students' perspective on AI's impact on assessment, focusing on whether it enhances or detracts assessment practices. Using a mixed-methods research design, it combines quantitative approach with quantitative data analysis to gain a comprehensive view of faculty and students' perspectives on the impact of AI in assessment processes. Data were collected from 12 university professors and a random sample of 35 students across various academic departments. The analysis revealed a broad agreement between the faculty and students on the advantages of AI in assessments, particularly in enhancing grading speed, accuracy, and feedback. However, considerable concerns were raised, like diminished critical thinking and problem-solving skills and over-reliance on technology. As a result, AI has the potential to either enhance or harm assessment practices, depending on how it is managed. This implies that AI should be integrated into educational assessment thoughtfully, improving efficiency without replacing human judgment or critical thinking, to ensure that it supports rather than detracts from the core educational mission.
