ChatGPT in Cybersecurity: A Double-Sided Weapon within the Cybersecurity Realm

Abstract
This paper demonstrates a study about ChatGPT within cybersecurity, a double-edged weapon used by legitimate and malicious users. We aim through this paper to provide an analysis of the challenges and recommendations of the use of ChatGPT within cybersecurity. Moreover, we showcase a range of benign tasks such as threat detection and monitoring of unusual sign-ins. On the contrary, we extend it to malicious uses such as performing a session hijack, attempting a social engineering action, as well as SQL injection. This paper is based on a survey that was addressed to the cyber community in specific and the public in general. It was composed of ten multiple-choice questions beside two short essay answers. The number of respondents was 45 from different walks of life. The findings of the survey show ChatGPT can be used negatively besides being used positively in cyberattacks, but the findings highlighted the negative concerns, such as privacy issues, and initiation on phishing emails and hacking ChatGPT. Overall, ChatGPT is a benign tool that can radiate a positive impact while taking careful consideration of falling in the hands of the reckless and attackers to achieve personal as well as financial gains.
