Abstract
<title>Abstract</title> The rapid expansion of artificial intelligence (AI) across sectors has accelerated the development of AI-focused credentials in higher education, including degrees, certificates, and micro-credentials. Central to many of these credentials is Python programming, which underpins machine learning, data science, and applied AI development. This study examines how immersive learning strategies—such as virtual simulation environments, gamified coding platforms, and project-based immersive learning—are integrated into AI credential programs in Wales and how they transform teaching and learning practices. Using a mixed-methods research design combining document analysis, surveys, and semi-structured interviews, the study explores pedagogical change, faculty development, student learning outcomes, and workforce alignment. Findings indicate that immersive learning functions as a catalyst for curricular innovation, enhances conceptual understanding of AI through Python, and supports responsible AI education. The paper contributes empirical evidence to international discussions on AI credentials as drivers of pedagogical and institutional transformation in higher education.
