Abstract

Introduction In order to remain competitive, higher education institutions strive to enhance the student experience by integrating modern technologies for both educational and administrative purposes. This paper presents the results of a study exploring students’ attitudes toward the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in higher education. Methods The data was collected through a survey conducted among 138 students, who responded to 50 questions regarding their level of awareness, practical experience, perceived benefits of using AI tools, potential issues and challenges, as well as ideas and suggestions for more effective use of AI technologies. The analysis was conducted using both traditional statistical techniques and contemporary machine learning methods. Results Findings show that students who understand AI capabilities are more confident and proactive in using it for learning purposes. Those who utilize AI believe it enhances their academic performance and recommend its use to their peers. Discussion Overall, students support the innovative use of AI and believe it will improve the educational process. According to them, the main risks associated with AI use include academic misconduct and the loss of critical thinking skills. The findings can serve as a starting point and foundation for future, more extensive studies exploring the attitudes of students from various academic disciplines and institutions.
